Profile
I have extensive experience in web site structure, layout and design. I have developed web sites, print advertisements, financial reports, and data management solutions for higher education, non-profit, high-tech, manufacturing and small business.
Effective Team Player – I am known for my enthusiasm for complex projects, ability to turn constructive criticism into elegant solutions, intuitive ability to sense and facilitate client’s needs, and finds joy in working with both clients' coworkers. A former manager noted: “Juan is indispensable. I rely on his ability to see problems from multiple points of view, and convert that into client solutions.” - Candace Egan, Former Web Manager, Fresno State.
Design Philosophies - I believe that simple, semantic design can be easily optimized to work well in all browsers, on all devices, and will allow for excellent SEO. Through mutual respect and camaraderie with my coworkers, we can analyze and define clear job requirements. This results in well formed and well organized finished products.

"Remote Live" Technology for Yamaha Disklavier Instruments
Status: Previous Site Design
The first iteration of a simple yet feature-rich page to display the revolutionary "Remote Live" technology. When connected to the audio feed, live performances are reproduced on the user's Disklavier. We are using similar functionality on the Junior Original Concert (annual event) and Yamaha Artist Services, Inc. live video pages.
Challenges
- Created a ASP/jQuery event schedule to automate the Flash/HMTL5 video feed.
- Integrated a mobile optimized remote control to override video feed from the shoot.
- Real time Twitter feed, event calendar, chat, map of connected Disklaviers, etc.
- Information is easy to understand so that any inexperienced Disklavier owner can enjoy effortlessly.
- We are currently standardizing a company-wide event utility that will ultimately control this page and others like it.
- OC Register Video: Playing a Yamaha piano from 2,000 miles away
RemoteLive (version 2)
Status: Live
The second itteration of an engaging user experience where consumers can connect their Yamaha Disklavier's to our service which allows them to enjoy live performances reproduced in synch with our streaming video to the Yamaha Disklavier in their own living room.
Challenges
- This site contains an events engine that stores and displays our live performance and rebroadcast schedule
- I constructed the first version of this site myself using simple ASP arrays and functions. That site provided the basis for the current version which our team here at Yamaha constructed in .NET along with my HTML/CSS/jQuery assistance.
- The final jQuery scripts we wrote update the events list in real time
- Just prior to a performance, the jquery invites the viewer to join the broadcast
- Broadcasts are currently presented in Flash video format only (restriction of our 3rd party streaming service)
- Since our jQuery regularly polls the database for changes, we can update event data in real time without requiring the user to reload the page.
- We are recently redesigning this site to incorporate On Demand video and streamlined connection instructions, intro video, etc.
Yamaha AVENTAGE Receivers
Status: Live
AVENTAGE is Yamaha's top of the line receiver model line. Yamaha Electronics Corporation wanted to feature the product group by adding web/iOS optimized video and jQuery interactions to engage the user.
Challenges
- Flash/HTML5 video optimized for iOS and Safari.
- jQuery controlled "tabs" (large feature buttons) containing product features descriptions and pop-up images.
- Engage the user in the product without taking them off of the Category landing page.
United Security Bank
Status: Live
The Bank needed to update it's look to a more sleek, professional feel. They also wanted the ability to distribute the maintenance of the site throughout the company rather than exclusively to the technology team.
Challenges
- Implemented Graphic Designer's Vision using Joomla Templates
- Joomla CMS with extensive plug-ins for diverse uses including JavaScript tabs and slides
- Training of staff members on the use of the Joomla CMS
Smittcamp Family Honors College at Fresno State
Status: Previous Site Design
The Honors College was looking to update their out of date site with a graphically appealing new design to entice honors level students to Fresno State.
Challenges
- Implemented Graphic Designer's Vision using Flash and HTML
- Adobe Contribute with Advanced Dreamweaver Templates
- SlideShow Pro with CSS and HTML floating on top
SAFE: Straight Advocates for Equality
Status: Previous Site Design
A new non-profit organization was formed and needs to get a web presence up and running before an important event scheduled to occur in Fresno. They hope to manage the site themselves with only basic understanding of blogging and email usage.
Challenges
- Work with client's Web Site Committee to develop a site structure
- Design of the look and feel of their site from scratch on an accelerated schedule
- Plan the implementation of WordPress as a CMS and SlideShow Pro for event photos
Meet in the Middle 4 Equality
Status: Past Event Site
A local organization needed to develop a new web site to convince people from around the state to rally in Fresno. This site is a fundraising tool as well as a method of getting the word out.
Challenges
- Unpaid volunteer work on an accelerated schedule to develop a site structure and graphic design based on existing flyer and logo
- Implement site utilizing Joomla, SlideShow Pro and Flash
- Develop an RSVP form using PHP, jQuery form validation and MySQL to gather, store
and manage the RSVP data - Administer remote hosted web server to accommodate this high traffic site
